Your team runs on rules that nobody has written down. Why not write them on a single page?

The Team Constitution is a single page, meant to be worked through in about an hour with the people the rules actually apply to sitting in the room, and it takes you from the sentence your constitution should open with, through the five questions of the rule, permission, authority, process, prohibition and amendment, to a test you can run against a decision your team is taking this week.

It gives you one half of what a team runs on: the half you can agree out loud and then write down. The other half is an honest account of where the team actually stands, and that one takes longer than an hour and will not reduce to a single page, because it is built by asking rather than by filling anything in. The article covers both.
